The problem
The business ran on phone calls, WhatsApp messages and cash. Orders were hard to track, riders were hard to pay fairly, and nobody could see the day's numbers until it was over. Four different services, delivery, taxi, handyman and cleaning, each worked differently.
What we did
- We wrote the whole API contract before any screen, so four apps could be built in parallel without stepping on each other.
- Money is stored in whole paise everywhere. There are no rounding surprises in a rider's payout.
- Cash on delivery stays as a permanent option. In a town like Karaikudi, removing it would have removed the customers.
- Every order at the door is closed with a handover code, so the customer knows the right person arrived.
